当艺术家遇见面包师(上)-食在18之饮食篇 Eat at 18

距离300米外的鸡场街,在一个不起眼的街道,有一家很用心经营的店,悄悄躲在只有懂得放慢脚步才能找到的地方。
45Lekiu的前缘,我再次得到了第一手的资讯-Musang Lena Residence的新作。这一次David和Soon Lum不单再次携手打造完美空间,同时还加入了Soon 的面包师姐姐 Eli Lum经营“食”的部分。三个人也因为很单纯的想要客人住得好,食的好共同打造的一个家。

同样以老屋当平台,楼上有两间房间可以住宿;楼下有美食。食,住分开经营,所以有两个名字。因为民宿位于45Lekiu的正对面所以直接命名为Opposite Place对面的意思)楼上有两间房间,分别为Opposite Suite West 和Opposite Suite East(在下一篇文章会仔细的介绍),而楼下则是跟着大牌号码而得名食在18(Eat at 18)


Whirling around the touristy streets of historical Malacca, one would be amazed by this quaint secret lurking on the quieter streets of this bustling town. Hidden a stone’s throw away Malacca’s famous Jonker Walk, at an unassuming corner where locals get on by with their daily chores, businesses and activities, and would be easily missed as one of Malacca’s sacred gems.


The collaboration is the brain-child of David, Soon and Eli who are idealists and are only keen to offer the best to their customers. David and Soon had named their second storey boutique hotel - Opposite Place, due to the location of their previous antique boutique project, 45 Lekiu – the name Opposite Place was a natural choice for their third project into the luxury accommodation business. Eli manages the operation of the café (Eat at 18), at ground level. To describe both the accommodation and F&B businesses separately, would be like trying to separate honey from its honeycomb. All the decor and interior of both levels were orchestrated by both David and Soon, thus a subtle uniformity in the look and feel of both business could be experienced throughout the building. And Eli’s daily freshly baked bread and brewed coffee will fill the noses of the occupants of Opposite Place.




有太多想讲的,但该从哪里开始呢?

先说姐姐Eli Lum(职业面包师)-食在18的老板-面包师兼厨师兼掌柜兼服务员(还有什么有的没的都要自己亲力亲为的打杂工人)为了把天然食材的概念散播在更多小角落而放下在大城市的舒适生活移民到了小地方。


 




在我眼中的Eli, 可以为了做好一片面包而测夜不眠,在自己的家乡又多一个默默在努力人岂不是件幸福的事?


天然无毒面包
除了美食,还有店里的招牌有机面包,和饼干。每天新鲜出炉。长相朴素的面包也因为成分使用有机的面粉制成,所以比一般的面包来的特别有饱足感,吃了特别满足。最喜欢它们家的咸味饼干parmesan biscotti, 得细嚼慢咽才能吃到饼干的层次,吃过一口就没办法停下来。还有带点甜的almond biscotti,口感香脆,更要命的是吃进嘴里的每一口都可以咬到满满的杏仁片,过瘾!


The main star of the café is definitely Eli’s freshly baked bread. Eli, being the perfectionist baker she is, demands that the ingredients of the dough she bakes are of organic origin and that zero preservatives are being used throughout the baking process. Coincidently, the reason why Eli has to bake daily to is ensure that customers enjoy the freshest confectionary daily. Best sellers are Eli’s Walnut Raisin Blue Bread, Parmesan Bread, Parmesan Biscotti and Almond Biscotti.

烹调新鲜的美食
9月26日2014年开门营业到至今,以坚持每天让顾客可以尝到最新鲜的食物为目标。新鲜食材就是最好的调味料,从甜点到主菜都可以感受Eli的用心。菜单里的每一道菜都是现煮现烹调的,店里加上Eli一共有三个人,一人点菜,一人出菜,一人做菜,人多的话得等上一段时间。话说回来,要烹煮没有负担的天然食品最关键在于时间与耐心。试问除了家里还有哪一家店会像妈妈一样尽心尽力的为你烹调好每一道菜?

Besides confectionary, the café also serves up a delicious array of main courses and desserts. The signature dishes are definitely the roasted chicken leg and the smoked duck salad – a must try! Desserts that will tantalise your taste buds include the almond toffee profiterole and the hot chocolate truffle – yummy!

空间
Musang Lena Residence 的作品常有种带人穿越时空的能力。坐在里面,像是回到过去阿嬷的年代,听着当年的歌,然后放空。店里的大地色系,想到温暖;想到家。植物是店里最好的疗愈师,有几面沾满绿叶的墙带给带给内心很久没有的平静,在这里,时间会慢两拍,让烦心的事都可以慢慢沉殿;在等待食物的时候当儿,也可以静静坐着看书,喝杯咖啡,看着天空享受自然共存的美好。

Located at a quiet corner of central Malacca, away from the prying eyes of nosy tourists, ground level’s Eat At 18 emits a life of its own. With a mix of rustic decor (drift wood furnishings, brick walls and retro mosaic floor tiles), warm lightings, oldies music playing in the background and eye-soothing greeneries, the set-up transforms into a Café with Soul. 



在我心里,食在18的空间有四种不一样的性情,
The café is sub-divided into 4 sections:  
1.大门口可以随意观赏街景,看人看风景的地方
The front is like the window to the soul of the cafe. Let time fly as you slip coffee and watch people and cars go by. Absorbing the energy of busy Malacca. 


















2.吧台-是可以跟厨师互动和看到厨师真性情的位置
The bar counter is air-conditioned, cosy and allows customers to watch the staff in action, serving up appetites.

3.天井可以与自然共处的地方,温暖的自然光可以让你好好的把书看完
The middle portion which is open air, lit by an open roof which is an ideal spot for some quiet reading with freshly brewed coffee or tea.

























4.后厅三五好友可以聚在一起聊天的地方(有私人空间的后厅只有在人数多于十位才会对外开放)
The back function room is reserved for events or big groups of 10 customers or more.
